Dr. Anil Shah is a pioneer in the world of facial plastics and now he is also a trailblazer in the medical grade skincare industry. Boasting the most potent retinol on the market his skincare is scientifically formulated to make significant changes in the overall health, youthfulness, and elasticity of the skin
The result is a series of retinol formulations named with Italian flair. The Lieve (0.5%), Mezzo (1%), Forza (1.5%), and the unprecedented Contorno (2%). Each is expertly formulated to not just aid in recovery but to revolutionize the way we think about skin care in the context of cosmetic surgery. In the current moment there is a desire for better skincare available – skincare that doesn’t just look pretty in a jar but skincare that is formulated to give actual tangible noticeable results! Camera ready results!
The inspiration in creating these retinol powerhouses began with Dr. Shah’s observations of his patients’ post-rhinoplasty recovery. While surgical technique and precision play critical roles in the outcome of a rhinoplasty, Dr. Shah recognized that the condition and quality of the skin also significantly impact the healing process and final appearance of the nose. Oily skin, for example, can contribute to the appearance of a larger nose post-surgery, while thicker skin might obscure the delicate refinements achieved during the procedure.
Retinol, a derivative of Vitamin A, is celebrated for its ability to accelerate cell turnover, improve skin texture, and reduce oiliness. However, existing formulations on the market often fell short in potency or were too irritating for post-surgical skin.
Dr. Shah’s approach is both scientific and artistic, taking inspiration from Italian craftsmanship and precision. Each retinol strength was carefully selected and named to reflect its purpose and power. The lowest grade is the Lieve (0.5%) which is formulated as the gentle introduction to retinol, suitable for sensitive skin or those new to retinol treatments. “Lieve” translates to “light” or “gentle,” embodying the formulation’s mild yet effective nature. While Mezzo (1%) is a step up in concentration, Mezzo is ideal for those with moderate skin issues or those who have acclimated to Lieve. Its name means “medium,” signifying its balanced strength.
While the Forza (1.5%) is for patients requiring a more robust solution, Forza offers potent skin remodeling benefits. Its name, translating to “strength,” indicates its powerful formulation designed for significant skin improvements.
And finally Contorno (2%) The crown jewel of Dr. Shah’s retinol series, Contorno is the strongest retinol available, scientifically designed for those seeking transformative skin changes. “Contorno” means “contour,” underlining its potential to refine and reshape the skin’s appearance, especially useful in the delicate post-rhinoplasty phase.
The integration of these retinols into post-rhinoplasty care routines has made a substantial change shift in recovery and long-term skincare. Patients report not just accelerated healing times but also noticeable improvements in skin texture and quality on and around the nose. The retinols work hard to reduce oiliness, refine pores, and thin out the skin, allowing for the surgical enhancements to be more pronounced and the overall shape of the nose to be better defined.
This innovative graded approach allows patients to start with a gentler formulation and gradually work their way up to higher concentrations, lowering the risk of irritation while maximizing the results.
Although originally developed with rhinoplasty patients in mind, the applications of Dr. Shah’s retinol formulations extend far beyond post-surgical care. Individuals seeking to improve the overall quality of their skin, combat signs of aging, or control acne have also found these products to be immensely beneficial. It’s a testament to Dr. Shah’s vision of not just addressing specific cosmetic concerns but enhancing the broader canvas of skin health and beauty.
Dr. Anil Shah’s skincare, specifically his retinols are truly revolutionary products in the industry. The scientific formulas and exacting science behind each ingredient is what sets these products apart of basic skincare out there. These retinols are designed to give patients a significant change to look and feel better in their own skin!

Dr. Shah:
I’m talking about retinols and retinols are basically my favorite product on the face. And so we’re gonna explain why it’s my favorite product, but let’s first talk about what a retinol is. A retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and what you can do with retinols, what they do, their purpose, is several fold. The first thing that they’re helpful for is anti-aging. And it’s the only clinically proven product that actually will make your skin look younger. Anything else out there we’re guessing is gonna help you look younger, but this has a lot of science and long-term science based on that. The second thing that’s helpful for is actually decreasing the amount of oil you may have in your skin. And that’s helpful for patients who can suffer from acne, but also patients who just have oily skin. The third thing you can do is help turn your skin cells over.
Let’s talk why that’s important. When we’re young, our skin seems to turn over a little bit faster. That’s why if you look at a 10-year-old, we look at their skin, and their skin looks really fresh and new, and it’s just like, wow, that’s not something they’re worried about. But if you look at an 80-year-old, 70-year-old, a 60-year-old, your skin looks kind of dull. And that effect is because the skin takes longer for it to turn over, it might be 30 days, 40 days, 50 days, and that’s the same skin versus an a 10-year-old, it might be 15 days or 16 days. So a retinol will help your skin turnover faster, so you have fresh skin more often, which is gonna make your skin look more uniform and look brighter, and it’s gonna be very helpful in the categories. And then the fourth category that it’s kind of underreported is retinols can actually decrease the thickness of your skin, especially in certain areas.
And the area that’s the most common is gonna be actually the tip of the nose. And so you’re not gonna go from a really wide nose to a very narrow nose using retinols, but it can shrink it enough so your nose won’t get larger as you get older. And also maybe make it more contoured. So all of these are factors, and the reason I like retinols post rhinoplasty is for the factor that it can decrease that excessive oil and shrink and create some more contour to the tip. So let’s talk about what retinols do. Let’s talk about why some patients don’t like retinols who’ve tried retinols in the past and some of their weaknesses. So retinols in general, if you put them on, they tend to be slightly irritating. You’re gonna get irritation typically around the nose, around the eyes and cheek, and sometimes in this chin area, especially in this labiomental crease and all of these little areas can cause irritation.
And so patients can say, I don’t wanna use my retinol. I can use it less often, but in reality it means that the retinol might not be being delivered as effectively. Sometimes retinols aren’t as powerful, they’re not as effective as what they can do. And so if you go to a drug store and you buy a retinol, it says, includes retinol, it probably actually isn’t retinol. If it is, it’s a super low dose. And so that’s also something that’s underpowered of the retinol. So if you’re going to use a retinol, highly suggest it’s strong enough, but it doesn’t cause irritation. So that’s why we reformulated our skincare products.
And so we deliver the product in the strongest possible way to get the least amount of irritation. And that’s kind of what you want in a retinol. It’s an oil-based product and put micro sponges in there. And both of those are important because it’s gonna deliver the product over a period of hours versus minutes, and that’s gonna cause much less irritation. And that allows you as the patient to be able to actually wear it during the day, wear it at night, and have way less irritation. And so again, you’re gonna get that benefit of having a stronger product and less irritation. So again, love patients using retinol. If you had one skincare product you use, I think a retinol is the one to use for almost every skin tear. Okay. But you have to use kind of like the right retinol to get the right effect.
