There is no best product for lips but there are some products which should NOT be used in the lips. Let’s talk about some of our favorite products for lips and those you shouldn’t use for lips!
The name says it all. Designed for lips it is essentially designed for smooth soft lips and is an extremely versatile product. This product can be injected with a variety of advanced techniques we use at Aesthetic Skin including Russian lip, stomal correction, cannula, microneedle, etc. This is probably one of our Go-To products for lips and great for first time patients.
Although not designed for lips, this product is used for patients who want a thicker lip and seek longer duration. For patients wanting a larger lip look, this product can be stacked without migrating to other areas. Only the most advanced injectors (that is all of us at Aesthetic Skin) should use this product here but its results can be next level in terms of duration and look.
The disadvantage of this product is that it swells and attracts water. Guess what, for some of our patients this is a good thing!!! If you like hydration in your lips this is a great product to consider. Use of this product should again only be attempted with advanced injectors and the best of the best (we’ve got you covered)
None of these products are designed for the lips but they can be used here and to great effect. These products are STICKY and for that reason don’t move around much. For patients worried about migration, consider these products. Refyne and defyne are surprisingly firm and contour has a fluffy quality. We use all of these products a little deeper within lips.
Perhaps the best neutral product on the market. It rarely causes swelling, bumps, or lumps. Maybe this product should be higher up on the list!!! It is designed to go everywhere and it does a great job too. This product has a high HA content (the highest on the list) and can transform lips almost as well as any product on the list.
Not designed for lips, some practitioners who are less experienced will play with the product here. It will create bumps, lumps and other issues in the lips so if your injector is trying to talk you into this, here is our advice at Aesthetic Skin… RUN!!! We are not saying that Radiesse is a bad product. On the contrary! We love Radiesse in many areas (jawline, cheekbones, hands, etc), just don’t put it in the lips.
Another product which you don’t put in your lips. Sculptra lasts up to 4 years but is designed for global volumization. Its use in the lips will create bumps which are extremely difficult to manage. Love this product elsewhere in face (we are one of the few offices with our specialized technique to create great effects especially in the glutes) but this should NEVER be used in lips.
This sounds like a dream come true. It is the longest lasting FDA approved filler and can be used safely in the face. Why not place it in the lips? Because this product should NEVER be placed there. In the lips it will create really firm, bumpy lips which are the opposite of what most patients want. Its greatest asset (longest lasting, semi-permanent) can make it really hard to manage here.
Now, I know this one is going to be controversial as MOST med spas and many practitioners LOVE these products. Here is why our practice just doesn’t use these products. First of all, duration. In our experience, these products last about a month in most patients. Why would you want to inject your lips with such a short acting filler? The main reason is that these fillers are the LOWEST price point for each company. They are kind of like the lowest level Porsche or Mercedes. Sure it has the name, but that is NOT what the consumer thinks they are getting. For most patients, they want the highest end products which last longer. It is economically more advantageous to have a product like Voluma injected once than to have an inferior product injected 5 or 6 times to keep up.
One of the worst products ever designed. It causes intense swelling. It only lasts a month. It can create weird looks and bumps. We just don’t use it or recommend it.
Hope that’s helpful and as always it is not just the product that’s important, you want an injector with the ability to transform to a beautiful end point. We’ve got you on both ends at Aesthetic Skin. We have the most robust training process in the country with a one year observership with Dr. Anil Shah and Dr. Sameea. You’re in good hands with us!!!
